Command And Conquer: Red Alert 3
Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3 is a real time strategy video game that was developed by EA Los Angeles and released on October 28 2008. This release was for Windows based PCs in the US. October 31 2008 brought the European release. Although Red Alert 3 was released for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 users had to wait until Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3 - Ultimate Edition was released on January 21 2009. Difficulties with the PS3 system architecture was the cause of the delay. To assuage the PS3 audience, the ultimate edition version included bonus material not available to Xbox 360 users.
Command & Conquer Series
Red Alert 3 forms a part of the Red Alert sub-series within the Command & Conquer series of games. In early January, EA Los Angeles announced a new addition to the game: Command & Conquer Red Alert 3: Uprising, a stand-alone single player expansion pack that was released for Windows in March 2009. It was offered via digital distribution.
Red Alert 3 Gameplay
The game is set in a parallel universe in which World War 2 never happened. Instead, the Soviet Union rose to power in the 1950s and battled with the Allies. At the same time, the Japanese Empire Of The Rising Sun also rose to power and posed an additional threat to the Allies.
The game player can choose to control any one of these three factions. The main gameplay involves constructing a base, gathering resources, and training armies comprising land, sea, and airborne units to defeat the other players. Each faction has a fully co-operative campaign, playable with an Artificial Intelligence or with another human player online. These campaigns follow a storyline, with specific mission objectives and unit restrictions applied. Unrestricted skirmish play against the computer and multiplayer via LAN or online is also available.
